American Idol Season 6 Wrap Up and Season 7 Auditions begin
Written on July 5, 2007
It has been 43 days since the Season 6 Finale of American Idol. I have been on the road quite a lot so I never had time to send out my detailed thoughts about the finale except for my short - Yeah Jordin won message before I headed off to Hawaii.
The American Idol Tour opens tomorrow and I have to wait 22 days before it reaches Portland on July 28th.
I personally thought the Season 6 finale was the best they have ever managed to put together. It is always interesting to stretch the results to two hours but this was the most entertaining two hours we have had in quite awhile. Even better then the Idol gives back.
The horrors of Season 5 finale finally buried away since it has that icky performance moment with Meatloaf and Katherine McPhee. Unfortunately they continued what they started last season with those stupid golden award moments I could have done without. They were stupid and took way too much time and we didn't need to see those throw out contestants again. The time could have been filled with more performances.
Jordin and Blake sing well together and their opening number was fun. Jordin was looking good in those designer outfits created for her.
The musical interludes were good. This group of Top 12 sing well together. I had to laugh that Haley had the shortest outfits yet again.
Gwen Stefani was great, loved her concert outfit. Smokey Robinson was a little scary with all his plastic surgery but he sang well and the guys did well as his backup singers. Gladys Knight was phenomenal but my heavens, she couldn't take her hand and brush the hair out of her eyes, it was way too distracting.
We did not need the solo number from he who should not be named, that wind effect was ridiculous and it once again showed how poor a singer he really is when he is singing by himself. I still plan on getting up when he has his solo numbers during the concert or I may just bring earplugs to block him out.
It was great to see all the prior Idol winners back even Taylor Hicks who stayed true to form but was actually in fine voice. I am probably one of the few who was glad Fantasia was singing on Broadway and couldn't make it.
Kelly Clarkson was hot. I realize many do not like her new rock sound but I have her new album and it is really good.
I am not sure why Bette Midler performed and I love Bette and have been to all her concerts but she was not in good voice. I think it was hands down the worst performance I have ever heard from her, she was not on her game.
The moment of the announcement came and I did jump up and down for joy but it also brought tears to my eyes watching her parents and the actual emotional reaction by Jordin.
Overall my favorite season finale ever so far.
I am suffering American Idol withdrawal since it isn't on but I have watched the season finale several times though.
Below are some interesting articles about the show over the last week weeks.
Even though Season 6 is now a distant memory Season 7 is starting up because the audition cities have been announced and they are starting earlier as well. The same age requirements are in place you must be between 16 to 28 as of July 28, 2007. Here is the information on the audition cities.
The immensely popular FOX talent hunt has just scheduled its new audition times and places in seven cities across the country.
They are:
• San Diego: July 30 at Qualcomm Stadium
• Dallas: Aug. 6 at Texas Stadium
• Omaha: Aug. 10 at Qwest Center
• Atlanta: Aug. 14 at a location to be announced
• Charleston, SC: Aug. 18 at N. Charleston Coliseum
• Miami: Aug. 22 at AmericanAirlines Arena
• Philadelphia: Aug. 27 at Wachovia Center
Thousands of hopefuls are expected to attend – although in a move considered a possible swipe at big-city folks, the New York Post reports that New Yorkers face a two-hour drive to the nearest tryout town, Philadelphia. Los Angeles hopefuls will need to travel south some three to four hours, to San Diego. Next season's Idol – its seventh edition – is set to start in January 2008.
I will send a blog about my concert experience and then we will have to wait for Season 7 in January 2008!
