AI7 - 5/21/08 And The Right David was Crowned!

I am so freaking’ ecstatic I don’t even know what to say. I have never been so surprised and in a great way then tonight. It is so exciting America got it right and the right David won the competition. I guess my power voting helped put him over the top; I have to take credit after all. Yes I know laugh out loud!

For the most part this was one of the more entertaining season final shows in some time. I could have done without having to listen to or see Mikalah Gordon again along with he who should not be named but I can’t have everything.

I found it very fascinating that they gave out the percentage of the votes for the two finalists. There were 97.5 million votes cast, 23 million more than ever before. A difference of 12,000,000 between the two David’s with the winner getting 56% and the runner up getting 44%. This is unbelievable given there has been a drop in viewers this season.

I thought the Top 12’s first group number was terrible. Can we talk about cheesy choreography? I was surprised at how awkward Amanda was in trying to move. Also Amanda still hasn’t learned to enunciate, I couldn’t understand a word. Give me a break!

The duet of the two David’s actually worked. I liked the number and both David’s did a fantastic job.

The first section of this show I did not enjoy was the shameless plug for The Love Guru. The whole section was just dumb and ridiculous filler when we could have had some great singing. Give me a break, I say no, no, no to these plugs!

The Syesha and Seal duet was great. Syesha was looking hot girl! Loved it!

Jason’s solo I could have down without. It was just the same old thing and he kept his eyes closed for most of the number.

I also really liked the top 6 female number with Donna Summer. Once again Amanda couldn’t move very well, it looked like she was afraid she was going to fall and/or she didn’t show up for the rehearsals and didn’t have a clue as to where to go. Don’t even get me started about Brooke and her lack of rhythm when it comes to dancing.

I adore Donna Summer but clearly she is getting older, she had quite a bit of trouble with her breathing after her up-tempo number but a goddess she remains and the all time classic, “Last Dance”!

Carly and Michael’s duet was also brilliant. I totally adored the arrangement of the number. They sang well together.

I also could have done without the Jimmy Kimmel comedy act. There was one comment that made me laugh and it was the first one, how much should I tip he who should not be named for valet parking my car!

The Top 6 guys’ numbers were also very good and Bryan Adams was a nice touch, however, Jason was once again reacting without reason given that great big Cheshire smile which was totally annoying and I wanted to slap it off his face. Mr. Stoner just irritates me.

I loved the David Cook and ZZ Top number as well.

I also laughed with the Guitar Hero commercial with David Cook reenacting the Tom Cruise singing in my underwear bit from Risky Business. David Cook sold the number as opposed to how ridiculous David Archuleta was doing it and come on boxer shorts, it just isn’t the same!

I guess we had to keep the mosh pit girls happy with The Jonas Brothers. I actually like several of their songs but I am not sure we needed to see them on American Idol.

I totally missed Brooke’s number. I had to mute the TV because I got a phone call. I really am not that sorry about it.

I have to give credit where it is due and David Archuleta’s duet with One Republic has to be in my opinion one of his best performances. It was contemporary, he was in fine voice and they sang very well together. David though had his eyes closed way too much in this performance.

I love Jordin Sparks and the girl was hot tonight. She looked great and put on a great performance and totally showed everyone the rumors about her ruining her voice were just that, rumor!

The one filler item I thought worked extremely well was the Gladys Knight and the Pips from 1972. It was pure genius with Stiller, Black and Downey putting in a great performance. I am actually going to download that video especially since it is for charity!

Carrie Underwood was good but I thought the number was way over produced; it was hard to actually hear her. Also what was up with that stupid outfit and that way too ridiculous scarf, just dumb!

The final Top 12 performance was much better than the first except Amanda continued to mumble while she and Brooke still couldn’t move very well.

George Michael now there is a surprise but oh yes, plugging his tour. I really like George Michael’s music but I was not enamored of the performance. I realize at the beginning he was having trouble hearing with his ear piece but I thought the arrangement was plodding and he was so soft I could barely hear what he was singing.

I have to say I found Simon’s comments to David C at the end very sincere and heartfelt.

We then had the very big surprise reveal of David Cook winning the crown.

I am surprised at myself because I found the winning song to be very good and I thought David’s interpretation of “Time of My Life” to be excellent. I will buy that single. David’s winning was as exciting as when Kelly Clarkson won. It was so full of surprise and joy it was very touching. I loved his mother and brother coming up as well.

This was a great ending to Season 7 and the right David walked away the real winner.

I can’t believe it is all over and I will be suffering through withdraw again until January 2009. What will I do with my Tuesday and Wednesday nights? Next Tuesday is my birthday and I am going to see “High School Musical”, the traveling show so I am pumped for that, however, then I have a long 7 months to get through. Not really because I have tickets to the American Idol tour coming through Portland on July 11th!

Until later dear readers and all American Idol fans…
