AI 9 3-30-10 A night of soulless of soul

This is their moment. This is your show. This is AMERICAN IDOL!

We have our top 10 and they will be touring this summer. I have attended every concert tour except for Season 3 and as things are shaping up, I might decide to skip the Season 9 tour as well. I am not sure if it would be worth spending all that money to hear the three or four contestants, which are in the running. The next eight weeks will assist with the decision.

I see the producers have moved away from the big announcement about the judges but I am not sure I liked the backstage opening and the uncomfortable judge’s moment with the closeness and kissing was over the top. Yuck!

Tonight’s theme is R&B/Soul.

Usher has a new album dropping on the same day he is acting as a mentor on American Idol. Color me surprise – NOT! Can someone answer me a question about why he needs to wear sunglasses indoors especially when he is not on stage and harsh lights were not reflecting on to his face. For someone who told all the contestants to connect with the audience it is hard to connect if they cannot see your eyes.

I will have more to say about the entire show after we dish about the contestants and the strange twists and turns of last night’s performances.

Let us get to the dirt!

Siobhan Magnus – “Through the Fire”

Please someone call 911 for Siobhan because the start of this song was torture. The first 35 seconds was a fingernail down the blackboard moment. The rest of the first half of this song was bad. There were so many off-key moments I stopped listening. There was a little improvement at the chorus but not much. Siobhan did not have any control over the majority of her vocals. There was one high note she reached but it was lackluster at best and the screaming at the end was pitchy. The outfit she was wearing was freaking horrible. This is not a good sign of what is coming.

Randy – This was all over the place. It was pitchy. This was not one of your shining moments. I admire your courageousness in tackling a difficult song. I love the outfit and boots. This was not your best performance. It was rough.

Ellen – There were off pitch moments but it was a great song choice. Starting the evening with Siobhan is like having dessert before the meal.

Kara – You seemed nervous. This should have worked and parts of it did “the screaming parts” but not the rest. You are entitled to an off night given every performer has one but you are still a great singer.

Simon – This sounded like you were singing while catching your breath while running a marathon. If this was the first time I had seen you I would not be impressed. This was your worst performance. I am getting bored with the screaming at the end.

Casey James – “Hold on I’m Coming”

Casey’s smile and grin is robotic and scary. Is he trying to hold back his nervousness or is he a child screaming, “Look mom I am on television?” Casey’s whole demeanor during the number left me cold. The only time Casey looks comfortable is when he is playing the guitar. I will give Casey his dues. I thought the vocals were decent and his enunciation was an improvement last night. What was up with the back-up singers because they were not helping this song and in fact were a detriment? This was good but not exciting.

Randy – This was another hot night for Casey. You were in your element and showed vocal range. This was a great song choice.

Ellen – You are consistent. I love your voice and tone but I thought it was all a bit generic. I wish you had chosen a different song. You did sing it well.

Kara – You do not always use a huge range. You need to go back to the acoustic guitar and show more of what you can do vocally.

Simon – This was your strongest week so far. You did not do a sound-alike performance. You showed a different side of yourself and you sounded authentic. I am very impressed with you this week.

Michael Lynche – “Ready For Love”

I like the choice of song and I really appreciated the way “Big Mike” scaled the arrangement back. This was a brilliant choice. Given all the theatrics, he has displayed previously this time he was able to sell the song solely with his vocals. “Big Mike’s” vocals were pitch perfect. This is the first performance of the evening, which had some “soul”.

Randy – I like you with the guitar. You were in the zone. The performance was not exciting but it is nice to show your sensitive side every once in awhile.

Ellen – Beautiful and I loved it.

Kara – I have to admit I had never heard this song until you chose it so I went to listen to it. You did an incredible job with it. You mastered the intention behind it.

Simon – This is the first time during the live shows where I took you seriously as an artist. The song is a little gloomy but you finally demonstrated the difference between being original and being a karaoke singer. I believed this performance.

Didi Benami – “What Becomes the Brokenhearted”

There was one positive for Didi tonight she looked fantastic and I loved the outfit. On the other hand, it was the wrong choice of look for the performance. The entire performance was uncomfortable to watch and torture to the ears. Didi was totally off pitch and never connected with the melody. The entire thing felt forced and Didi could not sell the emotion of the song. Didi actually sucked the soul out of the performance. Didi is a soul sucking vampire!

Randy – I felt like the performance flat-lined and stayed in the same place. I was waiting for some kind of moment and while you tried it did not work. The high note at the end was sharp. This was not great.

Ellen – This performance was too dramatic. I love your voice (Are you crazy?) but this was not your best.

Kara – I am confused. You are a singer-songwriter and that is what we loved about you in Hollywood. It seems you have lost your way. I am not sure who you are now.

Simon – This was like swimming in jelly. It was over-the-top and very old-fashioned. It was also off-key. The song just did not do it. I agree with Kara you have lost your way. You are no longer contemporary. It was like a singer murdering a song on one of those dancing shows.

Tim Urban – “Sweet Love”

I really wanted to cry after watching the video introduction and listening to this number. I was shaking my head during the entire performance. Wow another uncomfortable to watch and listen to performance. The vocals were okay but were lifeless and boring. While Tim was sitting on the stairs at the beginning he was flat but he recovered after he stood up. Tim’s movements across the stage were unnecessary and stupid. Tim’s definition of connecting with the audience was to severely open his eyes and just stare. Can I say those open eyes held no emotion and were Stephen King scary dead! The Cheshire cat grin added to the horror. Please just put me out of my misery now.

Randy – There are some pluses and minuses in the performance. The minus is you sounded like a singing waiter. The plus was you sang in tune mostly. You did not have any swagger so the song laid flat.

Ellen – You are adorable and there is a drinking game involving how many times I say it so I want everyone to have a shot right now because after this they may never drink again (Are you saying you feel Tim is going home?). Why did you choose this song? It was mostly in key. Why were you walking around as if you were sneaking into a bedroom? “We can see you. You were heading right towards us. Do not try to be so sneaky.”

Kara – This was part Vegas and part Broadway. You took the soul out of the song and made yourself uncommercial.

Simon – This was like a mouse picking a fight with an elephant. You smile, you are cute, the audience votes for you, and it does not matter what we say. You will still be here next week so “well done!”

I had a tweet during the show indicating Simon’s critique on Tim was the most accurate comment ever on American Idol and I have to agree.

Andrew Garcia – “Forever”

We have another contestant sitting on a stool playing the guitar. I did like the arrangement and the use of just the percussion and strings worked. I think the choice of song was good but the performance itself was just okay. There were some nice vocal moments with the bridge. The rest of the number was in Andrew’s weaker range, which did not help the overall performance.

Randy – Andrew is back! I love everything including the outfit. This was mad dope. This was your best performance in a long time.

Ellen – You were in the zone. Amazing.

Kara – I am happy to say this was one giant leap in the right direction.

Simon – I agree this was miles better than your recent performances. Do not take this the wrong way but my only problem is you as a person because you are coming across as boring.

Katie Stevens – “Chain of Fools”

I wanted to go running from the room after looking at Katie in that ridiculous outfit and the way too many accessories. The performance was awkward to watch. Please I am begging you to stop with the stupid vamping and head bobbing. I will give Katie some credit the vocals were good but very robotic. There was absolutely no soul in this song and she did not sell the emotions or meaning of it either.

Randy – You started rough but you have some pipes. This was one of the best vocal performances of the night. You are like a young Christina (What is Randy drinking?). You need to find a way to connect everything because you had many small moments but we need to see one big moment.

Ellen – You sounded mature not current.

Kara – You have found your niche. This was one of your best vocal performances (apparently Kara is drinking from Randy’s cup) however; you need to sound young and commercial.

Simon – I find the Christina comparison crazy. I think you sounded good but you were robotic and came across as cold. You need to be young and fun. The song choice was not great. I felt like I was watching Star Search. I do not agree with Kara that you should be an R&B/pop star. Listen to me not Kara.

Lee DeWyze – “Treat her like a Lady”

I am telling you this has to be the cast with the most illnesses ever, walking pneumonia indeed. I am giving Tim the credit he deserves. This performance had sterling vocals and he rocked the house. Tim brought real soul and emotion to the song he sold it. Tim is very comfortable with his guitar but he is still very uncomfortable in front of the camera. He really needs to lose the “deer in the headlight look”. My only criticism was his enunciation. I need to hear the lyrics!

Randy – It was unbelievable. This was your best performance from in weeks. It was da bomb.

Ellen – The night has finally started. This was the best performance of the night and possibly your best all together.

Kara – I am happy. This is your world, your record. Amazing.

Simon – I have always believed in you and I have been frustrated because you do not seem to believe in yourself. You do not always make eye contact when you talk which indicates something is off. I want you to watch the show back tonight. This might be the night your life changes forever.

Crystal Bowersox – “Midnight Train to Georgia”

I am still shaking my head as to why Crystal is in this competition because she should already be touring. I realize I am sounding like a broken record but the truth is the truth. Crystal performs like a seasoned pro and this was a freaking stellar vocal performance. Crystal’s voice is amazing and she hit some very interesting notes. I have to agree with Crystal using the piano is not her strong point but it was just a minor misstep she corrected by getting away from it. The only thing, which could have improved the performance, was getting rid of those backup singers. They were not necessary and impeded Crystal.

Randy – I love your outfit and the stilettos. I loved it. I am currently working with Gladys right now (enough with the name-dropping) and I am sure she would say you did the song proud.

Ellen – You are always great and you were smart to switch things up. You are in it to win.

Kara – I am glad you took this risk. I cannot wait to see what you do next week.

Simon – I love the song choice and the vocals. The background vocals seemed old-fashioned. I just want to warn you not to let the process change who you are as a performer because there was nothing wrong with you before. I love your personality and talent. You need to do what is comfortable for you and not change yourself.

Aaron Kelly – “Ain’t No Sunshine”

Aaron gets the pimp slot this week what are the producers thinking. Are we showing favoritism because statistically the contestant singing last rarely goes home? I do not think this was a good choice of song. Kris Allen owned this song last season and you are just asking for comparison. The vocals were okay although he was rough at the beginning but he was on pitch generally. The performance lacked any type of soul and Aaron could not sell this song. Aaron appeared nervous to me or perhaps he was told to rush through given we were almost out of time when he started. Aaron was like a zombie on that stage last night. It was not a good ending to the show.

Randy – The song started rough but when you got to the power notes you worked it out.

Ellen – I thought it was a good song choice and you really did a good job.

Kara – I liked it but did not love it. You could have sung it in a higher register.

Simon – It was okay but comparing it to some of the other performances tonight you were like a cupcake. There is no chance you are going home this week though.

Now that we have dished about the performances I have to rant about this entire show. Can we talk about filler and time wasting nonsense? The contestants had 90 seconds to sing. If you multiple that by 10 there was 15 minutes of singing in a two hour show. What is wrong with this picture since this is a singing contest! It was 9:00 and we had only heard four singers.

I wanted to scream given the time killing going on. The whole opening backstage, the wasted banter with Usher and Ryan, the backstage moments with the contestants when they were finished, the extra time some of the contestants got with the judge’s and Ryan trying to question them or push them into some type of reaction was unnecessary and painful to watch. Given all the time they had to fill the show it still went over time.

We could have lost an hour and still managed to fit in the singing, the judge’s comments and the video introductions.

Thank heavens “Glee” is returning next week because we will be back to an hour. I am more excited about the return of “Glee” then I am Season 9 of American Idol.

The one plus of the evening was Usher as a mentor. He had some very good pointers and advice for the contestants. It is sad there were so few who listened or simply were not able to follow-through.

The best performances were from Crystal, Lee and Big Mike. I voted for these contestants along with Siobhan. Based on Siobhan’s performance I would not have voted for her but I think she has potential and I do not want her to go before Didi!

I think the bottom three should be Tim, Didi and Aaron but suspect it will actually be Didi, Tim, and Katie.

I so want Didi to go but I am going to use reverse psychology like last week and pick someone else.

Tim is going home tonight. America please do the right thing.

Tonight we will see Usher hocking his new album once again. We will also see performances from Diddy (really) and Dirty Money (a group I have not heard of) along with Reuben Studdard. Do all of these performers have album sales to beef up?

I will definitely be watching the results show via tape delay!

Until tomorrow…

AI 9 3-24-10 And now there are 10

The votes are in for results night. This is AMERICAN IDOL!

The editors of the video montages must laugh themselves silly with all the drama they try to create. The beginning epic montage was kind of cool – Mortal Kombat INDEED!

The group number of “Wake Me up before you Go-Go” was hard to watch and listen to. These contestants are unable to lip sync to themselves. How lame is that? The choreography was uninspiring as well.

The Ford commercial sucked the big one last night as well. If I were Ford, I would ask for my money back on that one!

Cue the lights and let us discover who will be in the bottom three. During the first announcements, we have both Paige and Tim heading to the hard uncomfortable seats to wait for their fate.

Oh, it is Miley Cyrus here to plug her new movie and sing “When I Look at You” from the soundtrack. Color me surprised – NOT! I am surprised she can play the piano but let us talk about how horrible her performance was. The opening note was off and poor Miley hit quite a few bum notes. Let us all say it together IT WAS PITCHY! I feel better about letting Miley know how she did and she is lucky she did not have to face the judges because they would have torn that performance to pieces.

Time to fill out the bottom three and it is Katie but it appears Andrew’s fan base is waning because he almost made it to the bottom three. America surprised me once again. Katie gets a reprieve returning to the comfortable couches.

Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato will be performing “Make a Wave”. Why are they here? I do not think they can hear themselves or the music. The performance was choppy and their bum notes were painful. We must now all say it again IT WAS PITCHY! I hope you feel better because I certainly do. The song sucked right along with the so-called professionals.

Time for the results Tim is safe and Paige is heading home unless she can lip-sync for her life. Oh wait, sorry that line is from RuPaul’s Drag Race. Well it does not matter because Simon just cuts to the chase telling Paige the judges are unanimous they are not going to use their one and only save for her.

Next week’s theme is R&B with mentor Usher. I am so excited – NOT!

Paige sings us out with “All Right Now” and after that performance I would not have saved her either.

Until next week…

AI 9 3-23-10 The Miley Effect

Last week they rocked the Rolling Stones. This week they tackle Billboard’s Number One lists. Who will rise to the top? The pressure is on. This is AMERICAN IDOL!

I see the producers continue with their ridiculous “indulgent rubbish” with the big introduction of the judges and Ryan. TIME WASTER and filler, which is not required. Give more time to the contestants to perform.

The stakes are high for the contestants because only the Top 10 participates in the summer concert tour. We can only hope everyone will bring their A game into play. I am not holding out much hope.

There is additional time wasting with videos about Billboard’s Top 100 lists and a longer introductory video for tonight’s mentor, Miley Cyrus who is in the audience to observe how the contestants fare under her tutelage.

Let us get to dish the dirt about the performances from last night.

Lee Dewyze – “The Letter”

I will give Lee points for the fact he cleans up well. This performance though was stupid and campy but not in fun way. I will admit Lee seemed to be acting as if he was having fun but there was no real personality showing. Lee was acting at having fun. Lee was scared silly and he continues to have the “deer in the headlight” look when facing the audience, which he avoids at all costs. Lee will never make an impact until he is comfortable being on the stage. I was not enamored of the arrangement but Lee presented some decent vocals although there were some sharp moments.

Randy – I like the cool bluesy/soul version of the song. You knocked it out of the box.

Ellen – Initially blabbered on about your favorite pen and finished with my favorite pen is back. (Ellen channeling Paula – it was strange).

Kara – You have raised the bar for yourself. You have never sounded better or looked more comfortable. You have great control over your vocals. You have progressed but you need to believe you are good.

Simon – I was surprised with the choice of song. This was not a “recording performance” and the whole thing seemed corny with all the bouncing around on the stage. You sounded good but you missed my point about having a moment. This performance did not define you as a contemporary recording artist.

Paige Miles – “Against All Odds”

The stupidity of the contestants never fails to surprise me. Clearly, Paige has not watched this show. In the prior eight seasons this song as been poison for everyone who chooses it and each has delivered a performance which misses the point of the lyrics and in addition they could not sing their way out of a paper bag. To my surprise, Paige has topped everyone in the definition of giving the worst performance of any contestant so far in nine seasons. The winner of this title was John Stevens from season three with his excruciating rendition of “Mandy”. I still have nightmares of that performance. John is now at number two and Paige has won the title. Last night if you had opened the dictionary and looked for the definition of horrible singing, you would have found Paige’s picture. Paige’s start in her allegedly strong lower register (Miley you are a fool) was my fingernail down the blackboard moment of the evening and it went downhill from there. Pitchy my ass! The words available in the English language cannot come close to describing how bad this was. Miley you failed to advise Paige one needs breath support to sustain notes and give you the ability to hit the power belting.

Randy – I do not know if you are still having problems with your voice but to be, honest this was terrible. There was nothing about this, which came together.

Ellen – On the positive side, you did not fall down wearing those high heels and you look great. (Ellen just kick her to the curb.)

Kara – I think you stopped competing and listening to the judges. You took on the Mariah version of the song and if you are going to do that, you have to be awesome and you were not. This was your worst vocal and the worst vocal of the season ever.

Simon – Paige how do you feel you did. Paige indicates she struggled with the song and her pitch but she had fun singing it. (If that is Paige’s definition of fun, she must be the life of the party – NOT!). Simon retorts I am glad we are on the same page. It was like there was five Paige’s singing and they were all over the place. I agree with Kara you stopped competing and believing in yourself, which is a shame, because you were so good weeks ago. You are probably in serious trouble tonight.

Tim Urban – “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”

Tonight is not going very well and Miley you owe me two hours of my life back and I am so happy your advice to Tim to take risks was so successful – NOT! We had yet another stupid performance. Tim put more energy into his ridiculous bouncing around the stage than with his vocals. Is it just me or did Tim move as if he had a stick up his ass? The mugging and gyrating to his tween audience was making me sick to the stomach. I was ready to lose my dinner but quick. Tim triggered two more of my pet peeves about performing. First, his diction was so sloppy he butchered the words and second his eyes were closed through the majority of the song. The only positive outlook for Tim is Paige was so bad he could have come on stage, sang gibberish, and would still have been an improvement over the prior vocal.

Randy – You need to excite everyone every time you are on the stage. The slide was the most exciting part of the performance. The singing was boring and sounded like bad karaoke.

Ellen – You have fans who love you but this was like an audition for “High School Musical #13”. I did not get it.

Kara – This was like Zac Efron in “Hairspray” (excuse me I love “Hairspray”) but you did not do anything with the melody or to grab your audience.

Simon – I do not think the sliding around was a problem since it distracted from the song so I understand why you did it. The problem was that performance was pointless and silly. You do not seem to be competing. You have zero chance of winning unless you get your act together and try to become a contemporary, relevant performer.

Aaron Kelly – “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing”

I guess season nine will go down as one of the worst and the one with the most illnesses ever. Poor Aaron has laryngitis along with tonsillitis. Color me sympathetic – NOT! I was impressed with Aaron’s song choice, which is a rarity for me, and outside of the bridge, the vocals were not horrible. He loses points for screwing up the words but manages to save himself by going for the big power notes. Overall, the performance was a mixed bag but compared to the three prior singers he was like a breath of fresh air in a smoke filled room.

Randy – This was not a perfect performance as there were pitch issues but you came out on stage and sang. You have talent and I am a fan.

Ellen – This was the perfect song choice and I could tell you were sick because you are usually right on pitch (I do not think so). You are talented and I can see the career you could have.

Kara – I agree with Ellen. This was the best song choice of the night. You may have been off one week but you know how to pick a song, which accentuates your strengths. You need more stage presence though.

Simon – This was a very brave choice considering your voice issues but you are making yourself too old-fashioned. There is zero chance you are going home this week.

Crystal Bowersox – “Me and Bobby McGee”

I have crossed the frozen river to hell where Miley is mentoring Crystal. I am still asking why Crystal is here, not recording, and touring. I would purchase her album in a second. The ease at which Crystal performs is beautiful to behold. There are insufficient superlatives to describe how brilliant this performance was which leaves me with freaking AWESOME! I have suffered through an hour of torture to find relief.

Randy – Now America this is how you perform like a star. You came out, slayed the song and sang from your heart. I am so happy.

Ellen – There was nothing wrong with this performance but you seem to be missing a connection with the audience. You may be nervous and shy but you need to take in the audience’s love.

Kara – Last week you said you were thinking too much and tonight I saw you let loose a bit. I would ask you to consider not playing the guitar but just singing.

Simon – I would not change a thing. Up to this moment, we were watching a karaoke competition. I heard Pink sing this song and thought her version was the best one ever and yours was just as good. I have seen you progress over the past few weeks. You are doing your own thing and not being gimmicky. You took a song and nailed it. Your only gimmick is the rug on the stage.

Michael Lynche – “When a Man Loves a Woman”

“Big Mike” has so much natural charisma and poise on the stage. Wisely, Mike understands powerful vocals will capture the audience over boisterous movement. Mike took the stage and uplifted me with the true meaning of the song. This was not a perfect vocal as there were some technical flaws. Yet Mike never falters, covers those flaws with style and with the falsetto at the end nailed the moment. This was fantastic.

Randy – This was not the best vocal or the perfect song choice, but like Crystal, you know who you are. You came out and sang the heck out of it.

Ellen – This was a safe choice but you have a great voice and tone.

Kara – This was technically good but a bit boring, loungy, and overindulgent. I lost the connection with you.

Simon – I agree a little. It was like asking for a scoop of ice cream and then getting 11. I thought the arrangement was horrible. It would have been better if you had just gone with the piano instead of the whole ensemble. You were not able to make the song relevant. The good news is that you have a good voice, are likeable, and you have a ton of charisma.

Andrew Garcia – “I Heard it Through the Grapevine”

The best advice Miley can muster is lose the guitar, please! I think it was an incredibly stupid idea. Andrew without his guitar had him floundering. Andrew did not start well and I saw no real improvement throughout the performance. There was no joy in this performance and I have to admit Andrew has a weak voice. Andrew is unable to sustain a note of any length, which made this whole song sound choppy. The up and down of tonight is driving me crazy.

Randy – This was not good man. It was the wrong song choice and it did not work.

Ellen – I know you have many fans and I hope they vote for you but this was not enough to get people on your side.

Kara – I feel bad, as it seems you are chasing that “moment” but it is not working. I think the show is messing with your head. You seemed like a puppet and you were not moving with your regular swagger.

Simon – I think that perhaps we over-rated your earlier moment as it was just a good rendition of a Paula song. Miley’s advice to lose the guitar was good (I do not think so). You sucked the soul out of the song and ruined one of the greatest pop songs of all time. It was all a bit corny.

Katie Stevens – “Big Girls Don’t Cry”

I was not enamored with Katie’s song choice at all. There are contemporary songs out there, which would make Katie more believable because she is not a “big girl” as referenced by the meaning of this song. While Katie’s vocal performance was a tad better than last week it was not over the top great. The first verse was in tune but then it fell apart completely. This was passable karaoke. My real issue is Katie could not sell this song. The themes are something I would hope she has not experienced and if she has then her emoting sucked.

Randy – This was not your best performance and it was very sharp and pitchy throughout but you listened to us and picked a younger song.

Ellen – I think this was your best performance so far. You keep evolving. You are like the “Dakota Fanning” of American Idol.

Kara – Pop with an R&B leaning is your vibe. This was not perfect as you still have pitch problems. These are the types of songs you should sing.

Simon – I think meeting Miley was the best thing, which could have happened to you since you have a lot in common. You look much better this week than you did in that “pageant horror outfit” a few weeks ago. You are still in a tough place in the competition and you have not figured out who you need to be but this was good.

Casey James – “The Power of Love”

Tonight is totally pissing on my parade. I did not like this performance. It was karaoke in a bar with many drunken people. There was nothing special and Casey did not do anything but a Huey Lewis impersonation. I found it interesting he did not include the tricky key-changing bridge in the snippet he sang. It appears Casey realized he would not be able to pull it off. Casey’s diction sucked as well especially at the end of the phrases, it was simply mush.

Randy – I am a fan and I like your guitar playing. I was not a fan of this song choice but you did it well.

Ellen – I agree about the song choice but this was the best vocal of the night. (EXCUSE ME!)

Kara – I think you could make an album right now. You get better with time. You were in the zone and you need to stay there. (WHAT IS UP WITH THE JUDGES TONIGHT?)

Simon – This is not personal but I am not sure what Kara is listening to. The song was old-fashioned when it came out 25 years ago. This performance was not original and it was like listening to a Huey Lewis cover band.

Didi Benami – “You’re No Good”

Please put me out of my misery now! Didi is annoying me now and she has to go. This song was boring with a capital B. Didi’s pitch was off throughout and the last note was pure torture. The entire performance was excessively campy and not in a fun way. This was amateur night at a coffee shop. This was the worst ear candy so during the commercial I rushed over and grabbed the 45 I have of Linda’s version and put it on to eradicate the noise I just suffered through.

Randy – I love the idea of this but it did not work. It was pitchy all over the place. I like your outfit.

Ellen – I did not get the song choice but I love your voice.

Kara – It felt like you were playing a character. This left me confused.

Simon – It is ironic you are screeching about “you’re no good” repeatedly. This was like a bad part of a musical.

Siobhan Magnus – “Superstition”

Good gracious “WTF” is up with the outfit and the freaking hair. Did Casey create a time warp transporting us back to the 1980’s? Siobhan your vocals will win us over but your fashion and hair choices are causing me to get mad, please never do this again! Putting this behind me Siobhan kicked ass once again with some very impressive vocals. I take issue with her screaming and screeching at the end. This worked for the Rolling Stones but it failed miserably with Stevie Wonder. Siobhan had me throughout the song. There was joy and fun in the performance but she ruined the good feeling with that ending. This does not mean I do not still have mad love for her but she needs to use her pipes with more restraint.

Randy – I loved it. You went for it and showed conviction. You should inspire the other singers.

Ellen – Borrowing from “Oliver” – More Please!

Kara – I like how you express yourself every time you perform which is what I like about you. You have confidence. This was not your best performance but it was still great.

Simon – This is a performance, which will split the audience. The screaming at the end will get gimmicky. You might want to switch it up by doing it at the beginning of the number instead of at the end otherwise it will be predictable and you are not hitting them well.

The overall tone of the show was poor song choices, horrible singing, and the train wreck I had anticipated. Miley as a mentor did not bring anything to the show or the contestants. I will give her kudos for a couple of comments and the fact she actually used the word “pitchy” several times in her video, which has never been uttered by a mentor. Everyone is so talented and wonderful blah, blah, blah.

Outside of Crystal, Siobhan, and “Big Mike” no other contestant got a vote from me.

If we look solely at the performances Paige, Tim, and Andrew should be front and center during the elimination show with Paige singing us out. Unfortunately, I have a sinking feeling about Paige’s fan base.

My prediction for the bottom three is Paige, Andrew, and Lee with Andrew singing us out.

Until tomorrow…

AI 9 3-17-10 And now there are 11

I remember the good old days when the results show was only 30 minutes versus an hour. Those shows flew by now the filler we have to put up with is just ridiculous so Fox can make a few more bucks on commercials.

I must give a round of applause to the editors from last night’s dramatic opening because you would think after that we had the second coming of Jesus in the contestants of season 9 when in fact we do not. It is amazing what a little judicious editing will produce.

The Ford commercial was quick so there is not much to critic.

David Cook rocked the house last night. I mean he was freaking phenomenal. I am going to forget about his stupid haircut because the music was so good.

Now comparing David’s performance to the two performances from top-selling popular artists is like night and day. Orianthi and Keisha are what is wrong with modern music. They were horrible. Keisha could at least adequately lip-sync as opposed to Orianthi. Hell if those two were in the Top 12 my fingers would be flying to vote for everyone but them so they could make an early exit.

The judges save is back this season so we can now sit back and wait to see if they will use it or not.

As usual, my predictions for the bottom three was not very good. I only picked one out of three. On the other hand, I was pleasantly surprised that Paige and Tim ended up in the bottom three, which means their voting fans are not as strong. I hope that it will inspire them to try harder.

Luckily, my prediction of who would be singing us off was correct. Lacey ends her American Idol journey.

Until next week…

AI 9 3-16-10 Let the Fun Begin

Everything they have ever worked for has led up to this moment. You have chosen the top 12. Tonight is their debut. Welcome to the main event. This is AMERICAN IDOL!

I do not want to get on my soapbox but I am unable to resist. This is a singing competition not a judging competition and the contestants are more important than the host or the judges. Last year at this time, I put the following comment in my blog:

What was up with the big announcement (by someone other than Ryan) for the judges, come on it was ridiculous. The big opening and the judges coming out like the second coming of a deity. Give me a break. We then get an announcer announcing our host. This was just way too over the top for me.

I feel exactly the same way this year. THIS SIMPLY WASTES TIME AND IS UNNECESSARY. If we eliminated the video introductions and the big commotion introductions of the judges and Ryan, the contestants might actually be able to sing an entire song. The producers apparently see my suggestion as too outlandish for some strange reason known only to them.

My second pet peeve is the video introductions. I will repeat THIS IS A SINGING COMPETITION not a competition on who has the biggest sob story. I do not want to appear to be a cold hearted bastard but I am not going to buy your song or album because your father died, your family is poor (I am poor as is all of America) or you almost died, blah blah blah. You need to make me want to buy your song with some f*^king great vocals!

My final pet peeve is Mr. Director I want to see and listen to the contestants. I do not want camera angles, which put those ridiculous screaming kids with their arms waving in the mosh pit between the contestant and me. Stop it now!

Enough of my blabbering let us get back to reviewing the show.

I was three years old when The Rolling Stones got together and since I am old enough to be the father or heaven forbid the grandfather of a couple I am guessing these contestants do not have a clue as to the history of the band so cue the montage about the group.

Michael Lynche – “Miss You”

“Big Mike” does have a knack for choosing a good song. I definitely enjoyed the R&B take on the song versus the original disco attempt by the Stones. The vocals were good although there were some serious sharp notes in there but his falsetto was much smoother this week. I thought the actual performance was over-the-top theatrical with the dancing and every gesture. What was up with the hopping? I like “Big Mike” so I will give him this moment because he does have charisma and great stage presence.

Randy – You are in this to win. I was not crazy about arrangement at the beginning but you reminded me how great a performer you are. You slayed it.

Ellen – What is not to love about this performance? I may be disappointed at some point but not yet.

Kara – The first night on the stage and you delivered tonight. You had the Mick Jagger attitude and swagger going on.

Simon – Your confidence was up especially after last week’s performance, however, your performance especially the dancing was a little corny. You sang well but when you watch this back, you will see how desperate it appears.

Didi Benami – “Play with Fire”

Overall, the vocal performance given by Didi was the best she has given so far but even with that, there was still something off last night. This arrangement and performance was so dark and intense it was boring. There was no energy, Didi did not build to a climax and while she recovered, she had a major lyric mistake.

Randy – I am always interested in which songs contestants will choose and you made a great choice. “You’re on fire tonight!” This was your best performance so far.

Ellen – You have an amazing voice and I liked how you recovered when you lost your way. You sounded great.

Kara – You slipped when you push your vocals. You went dark tonight and it was compelling to hear you singing such an eerie song. You are beginning to show us who you are as an artist.

Simon – I agree with what everyone has had to say. I thought you were going to lose it about 30 seconds in but you picked it up. This was a good choice of song. I am a fan. This was a solid but not great performance. You are better than this.

Casey James – “It’s All Over Now”

Casey can play the guitar but it really hampers him as a performer. Every time he has the guitar, Casey is too rigid and it is painful to watch. I did enjoy the bluesy feel he gave the song and his vocals were good but Casey has serious trouble with his lower register. Overall the performance was just average but there was nothing which made me say I must get this singer’s album.

Randy – I am excited to see Casey back.

Ellen – I believe “most women” will find their hearts racing when they look at you but for people like her…”blondes”…it was fantastic. (Really Ellen a lesbian joke, give it a rest!)

Kara – You were previously trying to be a rock star but tonight you were one. (Excuse me!) You gave this some soul. This was your best performance so far.

Simon – You look great and you sang well, but this was like an audition performance. You did not use the stage and this platform to do something incredible. You are a good artist and people like you but you need to do more.

Lacey Brown – “Ruby Tuesday”

The vocals at the very beginning of the song were stellar and then it all fell apart. Lacey clearly needs help technically because there was a total lack of support and she does not know how to breathe. The majority of this song was flat and off-key. It was boring.

Randy – This was an interesting arrangement. It was pleasant.

Ellen – You moved around during the slow parts of the song but sat during the up-tempo parts. You like sitting on the edge of things so do not go to the Grand Canyon. This was a little sleepy.

Kara – I agree, as it was 50/50. I like hearing your voice but the vocals were not perfect. I appreciate the drama you were trying to give but you could have put more into it.

Simon – You perform like an actress with everything being precise and thought-through. The vocals and song were okay but you need to stop over thinking things. You are in danger of doing the same thing every week.

Andrew Garcia – “Gimme Shelter”

I personally found this entire performance to be bad. I did not like one thing about it. Andrew needs assistance with the technical portions of his performance. I found the entire vocal flat but especially the power notes. There was some improvement towards the end but by then I lost interest. This was just a stripped down mess. In addition, there was no energy in this performance.

Randy – I love you and the song but it was just pitchy everywhere.

Ellen – What do I know? This was your best performance yet. (What are you drinking, Ellen?)

Kara – I noticed the tone and voice that we have been missing but I did not feel your connection to the song. This is a song about the Vietnam War and you did not sell the anger. You should have been more intense. I want you to be better.

Simon – Kara you are taking this too literally – did you want him to come on stage in a tank? I am somewhere in the middle with this. I think you gave a 100 percent but were better in rehearsal. Something did not connect. I genuinely hope you stick around another week.

Katie Stevens – “Wild Horses”

Once again, I have to say I hated this entire performance and do not get me started on what a joke her outfit was. Some of the vocals were better than last week but the chorus was not in tune at all. This performance was boring with a capital “B”! The video montage had her butchering “From this Moment” and I saw no improvement in this performance. As a side note, Daniel Letterle performed my favorite version of this song in the movie “Camp”.

Randy – The song is great if you sing it well and you sang it well (are you nuts?) You had some pitch problems but you were able to correct that.

Ellen – There was some pitchiness at the beginning but you sounded terrific when you got in to it.

Kara – You are not always technically perfect (how about never) but you made a good choice and you did some nice things with the melody. This was better than last week.

Simon – You chose a strong song. Then he blathered on about how he recorded this song with Susan Boyle. (Whatever!) The second half lost something but you connected with the song for the first time and you gave it 100 percent.

Tim Urban – “Under My Thumb”

Tell me I am dreaming and this is not happening. What the f*^king hell was that performance about? This was a total freaking mess from start to finish. The reggae arrangement was terrible. Tim’s voice sounded strain and I was bored.

Randy – “Very bizarre and I did not get that.” I did not like it.

Ellen – I agree with Randy. It felt like I was at a resort where someone was singing while she drank a pina colada. You need to use the stage and wow us.

Kara – I understand what they are saying but I have to give you credit for doing something so different with the song. You made it your own (but not in a good way).

Simon – I agree with Kara. I applaud you for taking that risky chance but it is a boring song anyway and it did not work.

Siobhan Magnus – “Paint It Black”

Just as Adam Lambert stepped on the stage at this point last year and gave a memorable performance of “Black and White” so Siobhan took that stage and kicked this song’s ass. The entire performance with her sitting on the stairs glowing red to her full on vocal assault, the piercing screams and that ending lingering high note worked like magic to change my mood from pissed off to a happy, smiling person. This was just a freaking awesome moment. I loved the arrangement and I especially enjoyed the subtle changes she made in the melody.

Randy – That was hot!

Ellen – I love you, I like your look, and I like the sound of your voice. In a sea of people, you rise above them “like Snooki’s poof”.

Ellen – I am having a flash back to Adam Lambert. This was the best interpretation of the night.

Simon – I agree. I really see your development from the middle shows to tonight. You have raised the bar a little high for yourself but it was great. I believe some people will love that performance and some will hate it but that is a compliment.

Lee Dwyze – “Beast of Burden”

This was a very mixed performance. Some of the vocals sounded good and even current while much was horrible. Lee butchered the end as well. Mr. Dwyze’s diction was sloppy. I am not sure I understood half of what he was singing. It seems like every fourth or fifth word was clear and the rest was just lost in mush.

Randy – This was dope. You really brought this home. It was very singer-songwriter sort of like a Rob Thomas performance. (I am not sure what Randy was listening to).

Ellen – I was expecting more. It was like a hospital gown, it was almost there.

Kara – Your energy was a little low, however, you are growing faster than anyone else is. You are more confident and take more risks each week.

Simon – I like you as a person and your story but your personality is holding you back. Your personality does not always shine. You chose a safe and forgettable song tonight while others have had bigger moments. You have a terrific voice and I want you to come back so you can have a “moment.”

Paige Miles – “Honky Tonk Woman”

Boo hoo and cry me a river but do not try to get the sympathy vote from me. I guess I am a cold-hearted bastard. This was another mixed bag of a performance. There were some good moments i.e. some very powerful belted notes but then again there were some horrible moments. Paige’s lower register was a nightmare. I found the performance very bland and boring. She also lost me with that freaking horrible outfit.

Randy – When I first heard about this song choice, I was skeptical but you worked it out.

Ellen – I love your stage presence. Even though you were struggling with your voice, you sounded amazing.

Kara – You hit some high notes but you got a little lost at some points.

Simon – You did great despite the laryngitis. The performance was old-fashioned and sounded like something from a bar. You have not yet connected or had a big moment but you were still good.

Aaron Kelly – “Angie”

Well Ronald is definitely surprised Aaron managed to pull off an excellent vocal performance. In fact, by closing your eyes and just listening to his voice I thought he made the song believable. I also think Aaron used the entire stage better than anyone else did. I really enjoyed this performance and considering the train wreck from last week it is a miracle. On the other hand, the stylist should spend the rest of eternity having to wear that outfit and hairdo – give me a break.

Randy – I think your mom is right you are born to sing. I liked hearing such tender moments from Aaron; there were moments you sounded kind of like Justin Timberlake (not even in your wildest imagination Randy).

Ellen – Are you copying my hair? I thought this was a great song choice with Siobhan and you having the two performances, which stand out the most this week.

Kara – You showed me up after I beat you up last week. You sang the song from a powerful place. There was a connection. This was great.

Simon – I feared for you after I heard what the theme was but you chose 100 percent the perfect song and you sang within your limits and did not try to show off a big voice you do not have. Well done.

Crystal Bowersox – “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”

It is so fascinating how when Crystal takes the stage it is almost like we are watching a different show. It is sad she needed this show because she should already be out recording and touring. Crystal’s professionalism and grace is undeniable. This was another fantastic vocal. The woman is spot on. I enjoyed the stripped down arrangement along with the simple raw honesty in her voice.

Randy – I do not think this was your best performance but I love you and you did not disappoint me tonight.

Ellen – You make singing seem effortless and you were born to be on stage. What I have been missing is your personality and you showed that tonight. You were a little playful.

Kara – You really are comfortable on stage and in the past, it seems like you had the competition sewed up but not tonight.

Simon – You are the clear favorite but you did not choose a song with the drama you needed. I think Siobhan beat you. You need to kill it every week.

I love Crystal’s response telling Simon Siobhan was amazing and explaining she does not feel like she has it all sewn up but she is glad Simon thinks she does. Kudos my dear – point to you. Bite one Simon.

Tonight’s show was not the train wreck it could have been but except for a few excellent moments, it was simply mediocre.

These contestants did not motivate me to vote. Siobhan, Crystal, Mike, and Aaron were the only contestants who received votes from me.

I have already downloaded Siobhan and Crystal’s performances to my iPod though.

It is time for those wonderful predictions. Andrew, Lacey and Tim were the worst and deserve to be in the bottom three; however, I think the bottom three will be Lacey, Andrew and Casey.

There is no doubt in my mind Lacey will be singing us off tomorrow night as she heads home to continue singing in her parents church.

Until tomorrow…

AI 9 3-11-10 Elimination Round 3 - the Results

I am sure you experienced the 9.0 earthquake last Thursday night when the final eliminations were announced leaving us with the Top 12.

I was reeling from the shock and I had Friday off which is why this short blog is so late. I just could not contemplate putting together a review of the results show.

America is apparently not listening to the same contestants I am. The fact Lilly went before some of the other women is ridiculous.

I was only 25 percent correct with my predictions with Todrick being my lucky pick.

I can tell Season 9 is shaping up to match or exceed Season 3 as the worst so far.

If you have been living on an island Katelyn, Lilly, Todrick and Alex were sent packing.

The only thing I did enjoy from last Thursday’s show was the duet between Scott and Matt. The number was cheesy but at least their performance and sound was fantastic.

The Top 12 will finally perform together tomorrow night with elimination of one contestant on Wednesday. The scariest thing is they will be picking from the Rolling Stones play list. I can see the train wreck coming now!

AI 9 3-10-10 Elimination Round 3 - The Guys

Eight left standing. These are the guys and they are ready to deliver because this is AMERICAN IDOL!

Let us hope tonight brings more excitement then the performances from the women. I am happy we are letting go of the introduction videos for the sake of time.

Time to gossip about the performances, wait, I mean provide instructive criticism.

Lee Dewyze – “Fireflies”

I absolutely adore this song. Lee brought a decidedly alternative rock take and gave one of his best vocal performances so far. There were a few sharp notes in the middle. Lee looks comfortable on stage for the first time and genuinely seems to be having fun. This was a lively performance.

Randy – This was a strange song choice. There were some pitch problems. You made it your own and worked it out.

Ellen – You made it rock. I agree there were some pitch problems but it does not matter. You were great.

Kara – You look confident. You stepped it up and actually made the song better. This was not your best but still a solid performance.

Simon – The performance was nothing to rave about because there was no moment. You have made progress and I am glad you are here but you are better than that.

Alex Lambert – “Trouble”

Overall, I thought this was a decent performance. I think Alex’s vocals were good but not perfect. While still nervous, it is not as evident and he has definitely lost the deer in the headlight look. Alex needs to have lessons in movement to add some energy to his performing.

Randy – This was a good song choice. I liked it but there is no wow. It was too fast and you should slow it down.

Ellen – You are becoming a mushy banana. You are ripening so fast. You are consistently getting better and better each week. I love your innocence. You are real and honest but you need more confidence without getting cocky.

Kara – You can sing but you are still too stiff and not in the moment. The only thing standing in your way is you.

Simon – You are too still and concentrating on trying to deliver. You need to relax and have a good time. You have a good voice.

Tim Urban – “Hallelujah”

Another song I like and the cover Justin Timberlake performed in the Haiti relief show was spectacular. I downloaded it off iTunes. I think Tim delivered on the song. He was able to sell the song and the meaning. I really enjoyed the performance.

Randy – This is a great song and you had some big shoes to fill. This was a pretty good job.

Ellen – I have been really harsh on you, which is why I am going to give you a big hug and tell you this was fantastic. You sounded good.

Kara – I thought you were going home two weeks ago but now you could be one of the top guys. You were into it. This was an honest interpretation of the song and you sold the emotions.

Simon – I feel responsible for you doing well. You showed confidence and you made a very smart choice. I have heard better versions but it is easily your strongest performance so far.

Andrew Garcia – “Genie in a Bottle”

I found the arrangement terrible and the vocals were not up to par at all. I understand why Andrew made this choice but it did not work for me at all. If the vocals were, better, I might have bought it but this was just a total disappointment.

Randy – This was an interesting song choice. It was a good idea but it did not work. It was pitchy and there was only a three-note range.

Ellen – This was a great song choice but the performance was not good until the very end when you surprised me.

Kara – I think you peaked too soon. You were fighting the melody with the guitar. I am disappointed. This was not great.

Simon – I am with Kara. This was a little bit desperate and you over thought it.

Casey James – “You’ll think of me”

Good heavens is that someone sitting on a stool with a guitar? Did these men not learn anything after last night? I thought the beginning of the song was very rough but the vocals improved by the ending. It was nice to see Casey spending more time on the vocals versus the guitar playing but this was a safe and boring performance. I have to borrow one of Simon’s favorite comments: it was very forgettable.

Randy – This was a safe choice.

Ellen – I thought it was great. You seem very comfortable and I enjoy your vibe. You sounded great. I really like it.

Kara – I am starting to get back on the Casey train. It was better than last week. It was honest and you were singing from the heart but I am missing a spark from you. This performance is going in the right direction.

Simon – This is your second best performance. It made you sincere and you sounded great but no one will remember this in 24 hours.

Aaron Kelly – “I’m Already There”

This was a train wreck of a performance except for that glory note at the end. The vocals were shaky throughout. Aaron was the only contestant tonight with mush mouth as his enunciation sucked with the majority of the words very incomprehensible. These kids never learn the lesson about how important song selection really is.

Randy – You have the making of a great man. It was good once you hit the power zone in your lower register. This was a job well done.

Ellen – I love you and I do not feel like you are posing. You sounded better but I think it was too much song for you.

Kara – Every week you come out and give it your all but this song is not relevant to you.

Simon – I think Kara’s comment is complete and utter rubbish. I thought it was the right song. This was not the best vocal but it had emotion.

Todrick Hall – “Somebody to Love”

Queen, are you kidding Todrick, why would you choose one of their songs? Queen songs are very tough songs to sing because Freddie Mercury was a fantastic artist. You will always pale in comparison. The beginning of the song was very rough and Todrick missed several notes at the beginning of the chorus. The band and the back-up singers were not helping him. Adam Lambert could pull of the theatrics where as Todrick could not. I think he worked it out by the end but I just hated the entire performance.

Randy – Todrick is back. This proves you can sing. This is the best vocal of the night. (Randy what are you drinking.)

Ellen – You are a brave young man. I like the gospel take on the song. You did a good job.

Kara – We cannot listen to that and not call it great singing (I certainly can and did). I did not know whether to laugh or not at times but I still loved it.

Simon – It was good in parts but you are more of a Broadway star then a recording artist. This was American Idol the musical doing Queen.

Michael “Big Mike” Lynche – “This Woman’s Work”

Outside of the initial too sharp falsetto start, this was a freaking awesome performance. Once “Big Mike” dropped into his more natural voice this song soared. This was a very moving performance and the booming vocal finale spectacular. “Big Mike” is a powerhouse and has a chance to take it all.

Randy – This was really, crazy dope. This was an unbelievable performance. Where did that last note and chord come from?

Ellen – Oh my god that was beautiful. You are the one to beat.

Kara – It is amazing, you are amazing. It is your life right now; it is your respect for your wife, what you have gone through. It brought me to tears. I have never cried like this. You made it relevant I felt the emotions. Even though I do not have children, myself I could relate. (It was good but Kara’s reaction was a bit over the top.)

Simon – We needed this tonight after so many boring performances. This is a difficult song to sing and you 100 percent nailed it. This was not just the best performance of the night; it was the best performance of all these live shows so far.

I have to admit the guys brought a little bit more excitement to the stage then the women but at this point of the competition as we are about to crown the top 12, one of whom, will be the next American Idol I am not very enthusiastic with the majority of the contestants.

The worst performances for me were Aaron, Andrew and Todrick.

It is challenging trying to predict who will go home. Is America voting because of the contestant’s looks and personality versus talent?

Andrew and Aaron should be the two going home but I suspect it is going to be Todrick and Tim going home instead.

Until tomorrow…

AI 9 3-9-10 Elimination Round 3 - the Women

Eight girls, one dream, tonight they fight to get into the top 12 – tonight is ladies night and this is AMERICAN IDOL!

On a night when we have eight singers and one hour we have to waste time with a fake Ellen and Simon make-out session – PLEASE give me a break! I can buy much but certainly not a married lesbian and a newly engaged man, producers what are you thinking?

It is time to dish the dirt so to speak.

Katie Stevens – “Breakaway”

I guess Katie did not learn from Paige’s dismissal attempt at performing another Idol’s song. It is very irritating these contestants do not understand the rules. This performance was horrible. Katie was off key, flat, off the beat and she struggled immensely with her lower register (something Kelly excels with). There was no artistry at all in the performance. The arrangement and singing was so slow I almost nodded off. Katie I want to breakaway all right if only to avoid listening to you. I must also add I hated her outfit.

Randy – Kelly is one of the greatest contestants on this show and this paled in comparison. It was like karaoke. It did not work.

Ellen – I like you took our advice and chose a younger song. I like the song choice and you have a great voice. I did not feel the words, like taking a risk and breaking away. I did not see any personality.

Kara – You have a good radio voice. There are people in this competition who know who they are but you are not one of them. You do not know yourself as an artist. Your voice is almost years older than you are but you need more experience. The singing needed to be perfect tonight to stand out and it was not sweetie. You stumbled but I cannot deny your talent.

Simon – You took our advice but you have not figured out what kind of artist you want to be. The second half of the song did not go right. You sucked the energy out of the song and made it gloomy. I give you 10 out of 10 for trying.

Siobhan Magnus – “House of the Rising Sun”

Siobhan is going to be a contestant to reckon with. This was a brilliant song choice, which plays to the strength of her voice. The choice of starting a cappella worked perfectly as she drew us in simply with the power and strength of her voice. Siobhan commands our attention while on the stage. She was technically flawless hitting every note and she even changed it up enough to make it her own. This was a gorgeous, beautiful vocal. I loved her outfit too. My only sour moment was when she told Ryan her father “teach me” to sing.

Randy – What I like about you is you take every risk, every chance and surprise us. I do not think you listen to us at all but keep doing that because this was hot.

Ellen – You are why I love music because it is suppose to move you like you just moved me. You captivate me. You were spectacular.

Kara – Starting a capella was a brilliant choice. You are unique and different and every week you surprise me.

Simon – I was not as impressed. I thought everything about you tonight the performance, your chat with Ryan and your clothes were all weird. If I had not seen, you perform before I would be worried. You did not have a big moment this week like last week. (Simon I have no idea what you were listening to but this was a freaking great vocal performance).

Lacey Brown – “The Story”

Lacey sitting on the stage singing a slow, boring song this is not a way to win votes my dear. To borrow from the judges I thought this song was too big for Lacey’s whispery squeaky voice. The entire performance was not bad it was just okay and for a singing competition okay is not good enough. The entire performance was forgettable and I was happy it was over.

Randy – What is cool is even though the song was boring and sleepy this was your best performance in a long time.

Ellen – This was your best performance to date. You have a very distinctive voice.

Kara – Performances like this are why you got here. You made it effortless going in and out of your register and it was a brilliant choice of song. You should be making this type of record.

Simon – I did not love the song but you sang it well. I like how you know where to look at the camera. It is as if you have been doing this for a long time. I still have not heard the right song connection from you yet.

Katelyn Epperly – “I Feel the Earth Move”

Katelyn I certainly did not feel anything about this performance. There was no fire or passion in this performance. The vocals were fine but this was just a safe and boring choice. Katelyn did not bring anything to the performance. I hated her outfit and the hair was just a ridiculous choice.

Randy – The positive is I like the keyboard and the hair. I do not feel the right connection, there was nothing special, and it just seemed “put on”.

Ellen – I am not sure this was the right song choice to wow the audience and make them want to vote for you. You have a great voice and are adorable.

Kara – I did not feel like you were competing. I felt like you were going through the motions. I do not know what happened between last week and this week.

Simon – I like your hair. This was like request night at a restaurant on Friday night. You chose a simple song and did not do anything special with it.

Didi Benami – “Rhiannon”

Oh no please not another sleepy, slow folksy performance. I personally believe this was a poor song choice because the entire time I was comparing her to Stevie Nicks and Didi left me cold. There was nothing special about this performance at all. Didi also does not know how to dress; I hated her outfit too.

Randy – You were better than last week but there was no wow moment here.

Ellen – You pulled yourself together this week. Your song choice was good and I like what you did with it. Someone, no matter what you do, will always tear you apart but you just have to get past it. Good job.

Kara – This is one of my favorite moments all season (Are you nuts?). I did not think the song choice was going to work out but you surprised us by bringing something unique and making it yours.

Simon – I agree with Kara. This was better than anything else we have heard tonight (better than poor performances does not mean it is great). This is the first time you have proven yourself. The entire performance was a “wow” moment.

Paige Miles – “Smile”

I simply cannot believe the stupid song choice Paige made. On top of it, the entire performance sucked. The arrangement murdered the melody and Paige’s vocals finished the job on the song. Vocally Paige was all over the map, flat, sharp, and she was also off the beat. Paige looked nervous and it appeared she was shaking. This performance was my fingernail down the chalkboard moment and I certainly was not smiling. Paige’s outfit was horrendous.

Randy – This is one of my favorite songs and this just did not work for me. We lost the melody. You were not in the game.

Ellen – This song is supposed to be inspiring and uplifting but you made it sad and heavy. There was no personality. It was not the right song choice.

Kara – I have nothing more to add. This was all wrong.

Simon – The arrangement was awful. This was a “peanut performance”. You are singing in a bar and the patrons are eating peanuts ignoring you. You do not know what kind of artist you want to be. You have made some bad decisions and I think this is going to be the end of the road for you.

Crystal Bowersox – “Give Me One Reason”

This is a great song choice and Crystal provides a stunning vocal. Crystal knows how to command the stage and plays her guitar flawlessly but I still found this to be very safe song choice. There was no real excitement in the performance.

Randy – I love the song, I love you. I love your humility and honesty in performing.

Ellen – I need new adjectives for you because I am sick and tired of saying amazing. This was the best performance of the evening.

Kara – You are a performer who knows who they are and what to do. This was a great song choice.

Simon – You are one million billion percent going to be in top 12. You have shown the most improvement because you now have confidence in what you can accomplish. This is your competition to lose.

Lilly Scott – “I Fall to Pieces”

First, I like Lilly’s outfit but those stupid earrings must be destroyed and quick. Second, I was very much disappointed in this performance especially after last week. Lilly was sharp at the very beginning and she was doing something with her voice which annoyed me. Lilly worked it out by the end. I like her but this entire performance was lacking in power and excitement.

Randy – I like the mandolin. You are hot and in the zone.

Ellen – I like your voice and originality.

Kara – I do not know how you did it but you kind of made Patsy Cline current.

Simon – I think you were very brave to choose this song tonight. I did not feel the performance had the wow factor, which you really needed given you, had the final spot. The performance was cute and quirky but it may not be enough.

The one great thing about tonight’s one-hour program is we did not have to watch those ridiculous video introductions but on the other hand, there was absolutely no excitement during the program. Why oh why did these young, contemporary contestants choose such slow songs? Where is the excitement in performing?

I wish I had watched this episode last week when I was having trouble sleeping because tonight I would have had no issues in falling asleep. I found the entire episode boring which is not a good thing if the producers want me to vote. In fact, I was more interested in watching the repeat “Glee” episode than American Idol.

Siobhan and Crystal were my only favorites with Siobhan beating Crystal but a pinch. Outside of Lilly these were the only other contestants I casted votes for. I did manage to get in 287 votes but this is only because I waited to vote until after “Glee” was over.

Katie and Paige gave the worst performances and they are my predictions for elimination on Thursday night.

I am attending an orchestra concert tonight so I will be watching the men via tape but after the women’s poor showing, this might be best for my blood pressure and my ears.

Until tomorrow…

AI 9 3-4-10 Elimination Round 2 - The Results

What four will be leaving tonight? Drama is about to unfold on this stage. Ready? This is AMERICAN IDOL!

I had a pick-up rehearsal last night so I watched the show via tape, which is the best way to watch the results show. I can fast forward through the commercials as well as the other crap that fills times.

There were 27,000,000 votes over the two nights of voting and the results are in.

The top 20 are doing another group number and tonight’s song is “I’ve Gotta Feeling”. I love this song and this was an utter mess. I found it out of tune and boring for which this song definitely is not. These contestants are so lazy they could not even fake it. The lip-synching was terrible.

The guys are up first for elimination since they went first this week. The back row stands with Tim, “Big Mike”, Casey, and Todrick being safe. John Park is going home. Ronald is now one for one on his predictions.

I must say if John sang as well as he did during his encore as he did on Tuesday he might not be going home. There was something relaxed about the performance and there is a beautiful rich tone to his voice. Potential ruined due to poor song choice. These contestants need to hire me as their song selector.

The front row is ready for their fate. Lee, Aaron, Alex and Andrew are safe which means, yes, Ronald was right again, Mr. Diva Jermaine Sellers is heading home. Interesting how last night he knew it was god’s plan for him to continue but tonight this is not the case. Jermaine indicates, “I’ll say this, in God, there is no failure.” This may be true but when you suck, this is American Idol and you need to get off the stage. I would suggest learning to shut up, get some humility, and take grammar lessons.

Danny Gokey is here to pimp his new album with the country flair. I did like the song itself while the performance was lacking and I am not sure why.

The girls fates are about to be revealed. The back row finds Lilly, Paige, Katie, and Didi all being safe. Michelle is heading home and Ronald is now three for three. Wow, this is a surprise.

Michelle gave a rousing encore and improved from last night’s performance.

The final five wait for the results. Katelyn, Crystal, Siobhan, and Lacey are safe which means Haeley is going home and she ends my streak of correct predictions. I am happy America is actually listening to the contestants.

Haeley’s encore was even worse than last night. This was just a painful performance to listen to and it is why crying 16-year olds should never sing on national TV. It was not helping there was a chorus of girls off to the side weeping and singing as one voice. Cry me a river. NOT!

There is one more week of eliminations and we will have our top 12 with one of those being the next American Idol.

AI 9 3-3-10 Elimination Round 2 - The Women

Last night the guys took the stage in a last minute switch. It is time for the girls to answer back. It is on! This is AMERICAN IDOL!

I will be skipping the judge’s portion because it is so unnecessary to recap what occurred the night before. Let us listen to some singing producers.

Crystal Bowersox – “Long As I Can See the Light”

While we do not learn, what is wrong with Crystal she is clearly ill and the woman was on some heavy medication. I just have to say this was one freaking awesome performance. Crystal’s vocal was flawless. She let the simple power of her voice take control and she let us in on the ride. I loved what she did with the arrangement and her phrasing was perfection. This was a truly fantastic and memorable performance.

Randy – Even though this is a reality show, truth is reality and you are truth. You are not trying to be anyone else, you can come out week after week, and this girl will be there. I love you. This was a hot performance.

Ellen – I love your pure, raw, natural talent. I was scared for you but I am so glad you are here. There was nothing forced or pushed.

Kara – You completely recovered from last week and remain focused. You brought your performance to a new level.

Simon – I know how sick you were and you came out without playing the sympathy card and gave an incredible vocal performance. I “misunderestimated” you (please Simon proper English). This is like the moment with Kelly Clarkson where we knew we had a serious artist. Congratulations.

Haeley Vaughn – “The Climb”

This was an inspired song choice it is just too bad Haeley does not have the vocal skills to make it work. This was a f*^king awful performance. Haeley was never in harmony with the music, she had incredible breath issues, and the transitions were sloppy and sharp. This was my fingernail down the blackboard moment. I wanted to mute this so bad to ease my pain but I suffered for you dear reader but it was the hardest thing I have done in awhile.

Randy – I need to keep this real for you. The whole thing did not work for me. It was so pitchy and excruciating. You had no connection with the song.

Ellen – Haeley never stop smiling because it is adorable. I did not feel the connection to the song. This is a beautiful song.

Kara – You have the Alex Lambert factor with people rooting for you but unfortunately, you need a year to work on strengthening your voice.

Simon – I do not want to make this worse but the performance was a complete and utter mess.

Lacey Brown – “Kiss Me”

Lacey seems to have conquered her nerves because she appears to be more comfortable on the stage yet the performance was just off for me. The vocals were not horrible but it was just dull and boring. I was glad when it was over.

Randy – I think it was a good song choice but during the whole thing all, I could see where the words running at the bottom of the screen (yes he means it was karaoke).

Ellen – I think the performance was adorable. It sounded good.

Kara – Last week you lost what is special about you which is the tone of your voice, you are a good vocal stylist and this song brought it back but you really need to step it up.

Simon – This was marginally better than last week but I feel you are just taking part in a competition rather than highlighting you as an artist.

Katie Stevens – “Put Your Records On”

I think the entire song was in the wrong key for her and her vocals were very inconsistent. There were some good moments but it was mostly bland and boring. Katie has no power in her lower register.

Randy – There were some bright moments when you reached your upper register right after the bridge but the first part of the song was pitchy.

Ellen – I liked it and you have a great voice but I still want to see you act younger. I do not want to hear something found in a dentist office.

Kara – I think you opened up at the end of the song. Your song choices may sound good on the radio but do not have the same impact live. I am waiting for you to have that moment but I am still pulling for you.

Simon – This is very frustrating. I am glad you took our comments but if she came to his record label, he would tell her to get more experience and tell me what kind of artist you want to be. You need to make this decision.

Didi Benami – “Lean on Me”

The beginning of this was very flat but it improved once the tempo increased and she reached the chorus. In the end, the performance was simply boring and uninspired.

Randy – I would not have chosen this song for you. It did not work.

Ellen – I love your voice and presence but agrees this was not the best song choice.

Kara – This was not good. It was just poor karaoke. We lost what is unique about your voice.

Simon – You wasted a fantastic opportunity with a generic performance.

Michelle Delamor – “With Arms Wide Open”

I just have to say I hated and I cannot stress how much I hated her outfit. On the other hand, I loved this performance. I think this was a bold choice of song and Michelle changed it up enough to make it her own. Michelle’s voice sounded great even with the couple of sharp notes. The vocals made me pay attention, which has been a rarity this evening.

Randy – There were a few pitch problems and you did not do enough with it so it fell flat. I think your outfit is hot and makes a point that Vera Wang is in the audience (this matter why?).

Ellen – You do look fabulous and I think you did do enough. I forgot it was a rock song. There were a few pitch problems and while you have a great voice, it all most worked but not quite.

Kara – This was my favorite performance you have given. It was not technically perfect but it felt believable.

Simon – I agree with Kara. The first half was stronger than the second was. I realize we sometimes give contradictory advice but you at least got 80% of this right.

Lilly Scott – “A Change is Gonna Come”

I totally loved this performance. I liked the funky arrangement and she made the song sound original and new. Lilly is definitely a contestant to watch as long as she makes appropriate song choices. She needs to tone down the make-up though.

Randy – You are one of the most unique contestants. This is a tough song to sing but you worked it out. This is my favorite performance of the night so far.

Ellen – I do not know what “it is” but you definitely have “it”.

Kara – This is your first moment and you will change the game forever.

Simon – You are a crazy little thing, this is how you make yourself relevant. I thought it was good but I am not as enthusiastic as the others are. I think Crystal was better.

Katelyn Epperly – “The Scientist”

The evening is finally picking up. I found this to be a beautifully haunting stripped down version. I think the song really demonstrated what a great voice Katelyn has. This was a stellar performance. I definitely had my wow moment here.

Randy – This was too slow and I think it fell off at the end a bit but I really liked it.

Ellen – I think the song was slow which would be great if I was babysitting and you put the baby to sleep.

Kara – I rather love you. You have an incredible voice but your genres are all over the place. We need to know what kind of artist you will be.

Simon – I think you made a smart choice but you can be corny when performing. This was a million times better than last week.

Paige Miller – “Walk Away”

Paige why oh why would you choose to sing this song, are you crazy? This is a song performed by Idol Kelly Clarkson as well as one written by Kara. Do these contestants never learn? Technically she sounds good at least until she reached the bridge then it fell apart. I thought the entire performance seemed off.

Randy – I like your “rocker with soul” but I was not in love with it since there were too many words.

Ellen – I loved it because you changed just enough to make it yours.

Kara – I can see the soul-rock thing working, however, this is an angry song and you were having too much fun and smiling. Where is the anger and grit?

Simon – You failed to choose the right song. I continue to be frustrated.

Siobhan Magnus – “Think”

Where has Siobhan been hiding her awesome voice? I was pleasantly surprised with the powerful voice Siobhan demonstrated. The control she was exercising was unbelievable. The last note was Adam Lambert fantastic. It was utter perfection. This was a great way to end the evening. Siobhan made me sit up and really listen to her.

Randy – This was bold to take on Aretha and it was the “dope”.

Ellen – I loved it.

Kara – I cannot get over that awesome note.

Simon – I think you are a strange person, which is a compliment. I think parts of the song were terrible to me but that big note was incredible.

With some very rare exceptions, this was another boring semi-final round. The only performers who really make me want to listen to them are Crystal, Lilly, and Siobhan. Michelle and Katelyn were good tonight but they along with everyone else are in serious danger.

I managed to get in 301 votes and all of them were spread out between the contestants listed above.

Clearly, Haeley and Katie gave the worst performances of the evening. I think though they along with Didi will get sympathy votes.

My gut tells me Lacey and Michelle will be going home Thursday night.

AI 9 3-2-10 Elimination Round 2 - The Guys

They survived their first results show. They have seen two of their own sent home. Tonight is about their future, which lies in your hands. It is time for the guys. Live from Hollywood, this is AMERICAN IDOL!

Ryan explains the girls were supposed to perform this evening but Crystal was transported to the hospital and under medical advice should not perform so with the agreement of the guys they are performing instead. I am sure they did not have much to say about it. The machine of American Idol will move forward no matter what.

Once again, we spend enormous amounts of time with the judges. If we cut out this useless banter, each singer would gain at least an additional minute of singing time, which would be an excellent idea. My other suggestion would be to cut all the introductory videos giving even more time for the contestants to sing. The ones tonight were either boring or contained too much information (onesies indeed!).

Randy and Ellen have traded places at the judges table. I wish the producers would make up their minds.

Let us move on to gossiping about the contestants, wait, I mean providing meaningful criticism of their performances.

Michael “Big Mike” Lynche – “This is a Man’s World”

“Big Mike’s” theatrical background gave him an edge because tonight there was some charisma and he commands attention when on the stage. I was also happy he opened his eyes more as well. The best part of the performance was the ending when he threw in the little falsetto note. While this was good, it was not a wow performance. There were times when he was not singing at all and there were moments when he was flat. Clearly, “Big Mike” has a good voice and knows how to perform.

Randy – The season is finally getting started. This was unbelievable, crazy. Randy provides a standing ovation.

Ellen – I like all of your song choices, which have been very different. This will be the performance to beat tonight as you have raised the bar.

Kara – I did not get it until tonight. You owned it. You have gone from a singer to someone who can potentially be a great artist.

Simon – What a difference a week makes, you have gone from being a pussycat to a lion. This was the perfect song and you showed exactly who you are. This is by far your best performance in the competition so far.

John Park – “Gravity”

John was definitely better than last week but there was no wow. The performance did not make me sit up and listen. I did not like the arrangement and it was a boring performance just sitting on the stool. The vocals were okay outside of some pitch issues but it was too safe.

Randy – I like the John Mayer vibe for you but you did not bring anything original to the song. There were some pitch problems causing you to fall flat.

Ellen – I think this was the right song choice but you could have used more soul. Try to feel the song.

Kara – This was much better than last week but I am concerned about your connection and honesty. I do not always believe what you are singing. It may be because you are trying to be perfect but you need to let loose and take risks.

Simon – I believe the Purple Haze will be getting back their teammate. This was a “so what?” performance.

Casey James – “I Don’t Wanna Be”

I did not like this performance at all. I thought his voice sounded shaky and there was no confidence. The whole performance was just off. Casey relied too often on his guitar playing (which was phenomenal) versus singing. It was lazy. I also found his enunciation to be horrible. I understand he was going for a rock vibe but the mumbling was irritating.

Randy – I like you are channeling Jimi Hendrix and I can see you making this type of music as an artist. I am impressed with your guitar playing but it was not the best vocal.

Ellen – I like the song and I think you sounded great but there is a stiffness that comes across to me. It is as if he is good on paper but not in person. You need to perform more.

Kara – I think you took two steps backward tonight. You can play the guitar but this is a singing competition. Your honesty seemed to disappear. You did not sound great and you did not take the song to a different level.

Simon – I agree with Kara. Last week you stood out, this week you turned into the kind of singer you will see in any bar in the country. You do not have the grit in your voice to make this song work. It was more like sand.

Alex Lambert – “Everybody Knows”

Good heavens yet another contestant sitting on a stool and playing the guitar please do not let this be a trend. Luckily, Alex pulls a rabbit out of a hand. I really enjoyed this performance. Alex demonstrates great confidence this week and there is a beautiful gritty tone to his voice. I enjoyed the falsetto at the end as well.

Randy – I liked this performance. I enjoyed you did not do a sound-alike performance. There was improvement and you showed confidence. This is your niche.

Ellen – You are gaining experience and confidence. You have a nice Sam Cooke voice under your mallet. You have the most unique style of all the singers this season.

Kara – Everyone is rooting for you. You have an incredible recordable voice, which people would love to have, and you do not even know what to do with it. This is why I love this show because you are going to learn. People will look back to this show and remember seeing you before you are famous.

Simon – This is a million times better than last week. You should only be nervous if you are useless and Alex you are not useless. You have a great voice but you need to develop a killer instinct and be in this game to win. I wish I could choose your songs. You need to connect to the music. I do not want to hear anymore about your nerves because you are a good singer.

Todrick Hall – “What’s Love got to do with it”

Todrick is going to sing Tina oh please save me now. Todrick butchers another great song. This performance demonstrates Todrick really does not have much vocal range. The falsetto was rough and the chorus was not even in key. Todrick was missing notes right and left throughout the entire number. At least he cut off the coonskin tail! This was just a bloody mess.

Randy – A great singer does not need to work the arrangement you just need to pick a song and sing it. The falsetto was hot.

Ellen – I think you should move. Dancing is one of your strengths and if you are a performer then you need to be a performer. I did not like the song choice. The song is not current and it will not help you get votes. I want you here though.

Kara – Everyone likes you (excuse me Kara do not speak for me) and you got better when you started to move. I liked your original audition but since then you have been all over the place. I want you to go back and give your unique spin on songs.

Simon – This is not working for me. This was a theme park performance because there is no relevance.

Jermaine Sellers – “What’s Goin’ On?”

Please tell me that is not a bow tie and a faux Mohawk hair do – what is wrong with these contestants.

Before I get into how much I hated the performance I must digress and rant about murdering the English language. I have previously outlined some of my tipping points in how people speak and Jermaine hit two of the worst. The first is Adding an "S" to things that do not need it. Mr. Sellers and his “I rocks my…” The second is pronouncing "Ask" as "Axe" - the word is pronounced ASK! HOW HARD IS THAT TO SAY THOSE THREE LETTERS TOGETHER! Let us try it... A-S-K. One more time... A-S-K. That was very good! Now, tell me, where in A-S-K do you get A-X-E? That is RIGHT, YOU DO NOT! So learn how to speak properly because I am going to say what everyone thinks. It makes you sound uneducated and, frankly, totally illiterate. I am sorry but Jermaine irritated me like no other contestant last night.

This performance totally sucked and Jermaine came off once again as a freaking prima donna. Is it necessary to add three different notes in two different octaves when singing every freaking line? No, it is not. This contestant needs to go and go fast. Mr. “I rocks my onesie”.

Randy – This was better than last week (is he nuts?) but not great. You need to pull back more and use less vibrato.

Ellen – I love your style and onesie but the performance did not work for me. You were pushing it too much.

Kara – You do many impressive things but it is too much. You need to focus on the lyrics rather than showing off.

Simon – You water down the songs too much, this is a terrific song, but you played with it too much. No one takes you seriously as an artist.

Andrew Garcia – “You Give Me Something”

We have yet another contestant sitting on a stool. Did everyone hurt his back this week? Andrew at least has the vocal chops to keep our attention but this performance was lacking. It was so generic. Andrew has a terrific voice but he was not quite in tune and when he reached, the chorus there was no power or support so it fell flat. I was disappointed with this performance.

Randy – I did not like this – it was pitchy and all over the place. You are better than this.

Ellen – I disagree because despite a few pitch problems, it was good. You set the bar high with “Straight Up” and this is why we are disappointed. I am a big fan but you need to top yourself.

Kara – “Straight Up” was brilliant and you have not been since. You need to surprise everyone. You were too safe and too much like James Morrison.

Simon – I am frustrated that you have picked two bad songs. You need to be original and stand out from the crowd. You are better than this.

Aaron Kelly – “My Girl”

This performance surprised me the most. I really enjoyed it. Aaron improved immensely from last week. I think he really has some smooth vocals and he did change the song enough without butchering it to call it his own. My only issue is Aaron’s performance skills. This is where I could see his nerves and the head-bobbing thing has to go.

Randy – I was not sure if I would like this but you can really sing. This was 200 percent better than last week.

Ellen – I could see your confidence and I liked how you moved around the stage but the song was forgettable. You did show you could sing but you should have done that with a better song.

Kara – I liked the performance and I like you. You are consistent, you have great control, and you have a nice country twang and vibrato. I am impressed because you are so young.

Simon – I did not like it. I feel you went backwards. You need to be like Justin Bieber (excuse me) and work out what kind of artist you want to be.

Tim Urban – “Come On Get Higher”

Once again, I have to say I was surprised how much I liked this performance as well. I thought it was a solid performance. There were a couple of sharp notes in the chorus but overall I liked listening to it and thought Tim pulled a miracle after last week’s disaster.

Randy – I thought it was all a bit karaoke. There was nothing special or unique about it.

Ellen – You should act and would be good on “Glee”. You are adorable and would be popular if you act.

Kara – I liked the song choice but you did not make the song your own. You look and play the part but it is not all there. Sometimes I see it and then it goes the opposite way.

Simon – I disagree with the rest of the judges. This was a big improvement after last week. I feel like you listened to their criticism. You chose a “young song” and went back to what the judges saw in him earlier. You did not just give a karaoke performance as so many others did tonight. I am impressed by your attitude and work ethic. You did not whine you just went to work.

Lee DeWyze – “Lips of an Angel”

I like Lee and if he can tighten his vocals, i.e. conquer his nerves he might be a player in this competition. I liked the song and his performance. Lee’s diction was perfection. I only had two issues with the performance. First, there was the use of the microphone stand and second was the issue of his pants. Please stop pulling up your pants and get a belt or suspenders.

Randy – Why did you not play the guitar? It was a bold move and I like that you are trying to come out of your comfort zone. I love you. The song had some pitch problems but I liked it.

Ellen – I agree about the pitch problems but do not think it matters. You did not perform a whole lot but your passion came out.

Kara – This was a big improvement. I can hear you on the radio right now. You need to own your stance.

Simon – You need to raise your shoulders. Vocally, you are far above all the other guys. You need to believe in yourself. I am waiting for you to lose your nerves and connect. You may be the one to beat.

This week was not a total train wreck for the men with a few exceptions. I voted but did not spend two hours voting. I voted for everyone but Jermaine. I did manage to get in 247 votes though. The majority of my votes when for “Big Mike”, Alex, Aaron, Tim and Lee.

I believe Todrick and Jermaine should be heading home but my prediction is Jermaine and John will find their journey ending on Thursday night.
